General Routing Guidelines

All student routing assignments are prepared base on the Pennsylvania State student transportation policies (PA School Code 1942; (e)  Transportation of Pupils.) All students residing outside of the North East School District’s defined walk-zone, will be assigned a busing assignment. If you have questions regarding the District’s busing policies, or the walk-zone parameters, please contact the transportation office.

  • Student Safety – all safety concerns should be directed to the transportation supervisor, and will be thoroughly evaluated by the transportation department.
  • Environmental Concerns, Vehicle Accessibility and Safety
  • Hazardous Walking Routes – As defined by PennDOT
  • The North East School District Walk-Zone Parameters
  • All student routing assignments will directly reflect the provided, primary, address in Sapphire.
    • Students who utilize custody agreements, should ensure that parents reach out to ensure that a second stop assignment is created.
    • If a student changes home addresses, the family will need to update the address in Sapphire to ensure that the student can be assigned to a new bus stop.
  • All Private School Students will be provided with a busing assignment, should the private/parochial school be located within 10 miles of North East Township/North East Borough.
  • At the beginning of each school year, the student’s busing information will be available in Sapphire.

School Bus Route Changes

  • All student assignments will be created based on the student’s primary address in Sapphire.
  • If you would like to request a change in location, please complete a “Change Request Form” located on the Transportation Page of the North East School District’s Website.
  • Changes/modifications will be evaluated by the Transportation Department, and the parent/guardian completing the request will receive notification informing them if the change request is permissible.

Bus Stop Reminders

  • Students are only permitted to board, and unload, at their assigned bus stop.
  • Students should arrive to their bus stop 10 minutes prior to their assigned stop time, to ensure that they do not miss the bus.
  • All assigned bus stops will be assigned within the defined state guidelines.
    • A maximum of a 1.5 mile walking distance from the student’s property line for grades K – 6.
    • A maximum of a 2 mile walking distance from the student’s property line for grades 7 -12.
  • Students should not approach the bus until the bus has come to a complete stop.
  • In the afternoon, students should remain at the stop location, until the bus departs from the stop, to ensure student safety.
  • All K-2 students are required to have a parent/guardian present at the bus stop. If a parent/guardian is not present, the student may be returned to the North East School District Campus, for the parent to pick up.
