The North East School District will utilize a Remote Learning Day in place of a regular in-person school day due to inclement weather and/or other unforeseen emergency circumstances.

Students and Parents will be notified via the school district’s notification systems, including ParentSquare and Sapphire Notification. An alert will also be shared on the NESD App powered by ParentSquare.

- Notifications are sent via ParentSquare and Sapphire Notification by way of voice call and SMS text.
- Emails are sent to all currently registered accounts via ParentSquare and Sapphire Notification.
- Alerts will be shared via the NESD Mobile App powered by ParentSquare.
- Local news media outlets will be notified promptly for additional informational sharing.

Yes. Teachers will share detailed instructions regarding the schedule and accompanying learning activities for the day. The K-12 schedule can also be found on the district website under Academics → Remote Learning.

The schedule is entirely flexible as students will complete work in an asynchronous manner throughout the course of the remote learning time frame. There is an expectation that ALL K-12 students will reply to an email from their homeroom teacher for purposes of attendance checks in the morning and afternoon.

All 6-12 students will be expected to reply to their homeroom teacher’s email during a brief PM Attendance Check. The Attendance Check will take place during the time frame outlined in the district’s Remote Learning Plan. Each student will simply respond to the short Google Form sent by teachers via email.
All K-5 students will be credited with attendance based on the submission of a completed packet upon their return to in-person learning back in the school building.

Students in grades K-5 will have their learning packets as distributed by their teachers. Learning packets will typically be added to student folders on the first of every month and will remain there until the next packet is added. Students in grades 6-12 will access their class lessons via Google Classroom or a direct email from their teachers. Lessons will describe the learning objectives, the activity or assignment to be completed, any additional resources that may support the learning, and directions for submission of completed assignments. Teachers will be available throughout the school day to offer guidance, instructional support, and to answer any questions or clarify any information, as outlined below:

A Remote Learning Day is used as an alternative approach to the facilitation of learning should inclement weather or another emergency circumstance arise. Makeup dates will continue to be designated in the district calendar, should a Remote Learning Day not be feasibly possible. District communication will clearly articulate each and every situation accordingly.

No, there will be no expectation for students to access live instruction via Google Meet or another learning platform. All student work will be asynchronous unless otherwise noted by your teacher. Teachers will be live and available for instructional support and assistance throughout the school day as outlined in the district schedule.

In the event a student is unable to access required resources and/or Internet via the district-provided Chromebook due to extenuating circumstances, students may make alternate arrangements with their teacher. These may include, but are not limited to, access to hard-copy learning materials upon return to in-person learning and up to two [2] additional days in which to complete assignments.

The NESD Technology Department will provide direct support to students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students or parents may contact the Tech Team via email @ helpdesk@nesd1.org and share a brief description of the problem being encountered, such as: forgotten login information, non-functioning equipment, technical difficulties, etc. Please be sure to provide applicable contact information for a timely response. The Tech Team will be closely monitoring the Help Desk during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Remote Learning Days.

Students who do not participate in the Remote Learning Day with completion of assignments will be marked with an Unexcused Absence until which time a parental or medical excuse has been submitted, per district and state attendance policy guidelines. This includes both the AM & PM attendance checks.

Teachers will be available to answer questions, provide instructional support, share feedback and clarify any student misunderstandings by way of email throughout the entirety of the school day, beginning at 7:30 AM through 3:30 PM. Additionally, K-12 teachers will be live and available via Google Meet to facilitate the learning process remotely, as outlined in the district’s Remote Learning Plan.

Applicable students may be afforded additional time in which to complete assignments. They may receive modifications and supplementary aids as outlined in their individualized education plans. Following a Remote Learning Day, teachers will review work submitted, check for completion, accuracy, and understanding, and provide any other accommodations as documented. A predetermined set of activities will be prepared for students who attend Autistic Support, Life Skills Support, Emotional Support, or Multiple Disabilities programs where appropriate. Any related service scheduled during a Remote Learning Day will be rescheduled according to the frequency requirements of each students’ individualized education plan. Additionally, teachers will be live and available during allotted time frames as outlined in the district’s Remote Learning Plan.

School activities will be assessed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Decisions will be made by administration and communicated promptly once those determinations are made.

Coordinated meetings will only take place if they were already scheduled to be conducted in a virtual format. All in-person meetings will be rescheduled for another date.

There are no changes to your schedule. Students will continue to access their courses and content in the same manner as any other day of learning.
