Dear North East Family,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to wish each one of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

Thank you for supporting our children, teachers, administration, and support staff. We appreciate your commitment and generosity to the North East School District, especially during this time of year.

The schools and offices will be closed Friday, December 23rd through Friday, December 30th, 2022.  School will resume on Monday, January 2, 2023. There will be no STEM & Vine after school program the weeks of December 19th and January 2nd.

Your commitment to the North East School District is paramount to the success of all students.  If you need anything, please email us at: adminoffice@nesd1.org because in North East, “Every Piece Matters!”

Finally, please take a moment to reflect on those who are serving our Country and that cannot be home with their families and keep in mind that the spirit of the season is one of love, generosity, and kindness.

Many wishes for a safe holiday and a very Happy New Year.

Dear North East Families,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wanted to take a moment to wish each one of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. This is a great time of year to reflect on all the things we have, ways to be grateful, and how we can give back to those in need. I am especially grateful to be able to serve our children and to be part of a wonderful community. I am also thankful for all the men and women who have sacrificed, who have served, or who are currently serving, in the United States Armed Forces.

We wanted to take a moment to thank all of our community partners that have provided for our children and staff throughout the school year and to remind you to shop local and support our local businesses this Saturday, November 26th for Small Business Saturday.

Please join our choral and band students for Light up the Night downtown on Saturday, November 26th. Cocoa and the festivities begin at 5:45 p.m. followed by a parade and tree lighting ceremony.

The schools and offices will be closed from Wednesday, November 23rd through Monday, November 28th. School will resume on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving with your friends and family, please remember those in need, take time to pay it forward, to give back, and to give thanks. Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break!

Sincerely,

Dr. Michele S. Hartzell, Superintendent

Re: Inclement Weather Procedures

Dear Parents and Guardians of North East School District Students,

We hope your children are having a great school year! We have had a great start and have seen a lot of school pride already this year. We hope it will continue throughout the year.

As the winter season approaches, we want to assure you that the school district takes the decision making process to cancel or delay the start of school very seriously. The safety of our students and staff is the most important consideration when making this decision. Weather conditions throughout our district may vary greatly depending on where you live. If at any time you feel the weather conditions where you live are not safe for your child to attend school, please keep them at home. If you have a young driver, please speak to them regarding severe weather conditions and remember that bus transportation is available in lieu of driving in snow and ice.

In most instances we will begin with a “two-hour delay” and monitor the conditions very closely from that point. There are times when the decision can be made the night before and when it is possible, this will occur. Rarely will a decision be made to send students home early from school once they are here. Our buildings are safe and supervised places. Once a decision is made, the district’s Sapphire phone notification system will be activated. There may be times when we could transition to remote learning; please make sure to have a plan in place for this situation. The remote schedules are located on the district website.

Please log in to the Sapphire parent portal and make sure your contact information is correct or make changes as needed. Weather related messages will also be posted on the district’s website and official Facebook pages as well as through local radio and television stations. The website will be our first place of notification.

Please note that if we have no school or dismiss early due to inclement weather, the buildings will be closed to the public. All practices, games, events, after school and evening activities will be cancelled. There may also be times when school has been in session for the full day but evening activities must be cancelled due to the weather. This information will be posted the district website and official Facebook page as well as through afternoon announcements to the students.

We ask for your patience as buses may be delayed due to weather conditions. Again, we will do our best to keep you informed. If you have any questions about any of the information contained in this letter or need any other assistance, please feel free to call your child’s respective building administrators or call my office directly at 725- 8671.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michele S. Hartzell, Superintendent
