A good support system is essential to help students that are not grasping the material covered in class.  The following programs are ways for students to get back on track.

After School Academic Tutoring
North East High School offers tutoring to any student in need, beginning in mid-October each year, on Mondays through Thursdays after school from 3:00 to 4:00.  Staffed by regular high school teachers, tutoring is offered as follows:

  • Mondays:       Science

  • Tuesdays:       Math

  • Wednesdays:  English

  • Thursdays:      Social Studies

North East Support Team (NEST)
North East High School’s Student Assistance Program, called NEST, helps address barriers to learning so that students can become more successful in school.  The NEST team consists of a corps of teachers, administrators, counselors, and the nurse trained through a state-endorsed program of drug, alcohol, and suicide prevention.  This team works in cooperation with Intermediate Unit 5 mental health consultants and the Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) drug and alcohol counselors.

The NEST team operates as an identification program of students “at risk”, an intervention program, a referral base, and a support group.  Parents are notified of all referrals, and parent permission is required for the team to proceed.  Parents are involved in all aspects of the assessment process.
