Davis Speech and Language Program

A full time speech and Language Therapist is assigned from IU5 to provide services to students in the North East School District.  At E. C. Davis Primary the informally therapist screens every kindergarten and new first or second grade student in September.  Screening results may warrant a more formal assessment, at which point the therapist communicates this information in writing to the student’s parent(s) and teacher.

The recommendation for formal screening is sent to the parents or guardians.  With their permission, the therapist completes an evaluation.  The results are reviewed with a team consisting of parents/guardians, teachers, the principal, and the therapist.  If the team agrees, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is written and a support program is put into place and is reviewed annually.

At E. C. Davis Primary the Speech and Language Therapist also serves on the Case Management Team, an early intervention services.  The team meets weekly to discuss and provide services for children and families in need.
