Scholars Program
The children, teachers and parents have shown what good scholarship and an excitement for learning is all about.  An increasing number of students and parents have requested opportunities for children to receive extra help at the end of the day and to be allowed access to the school on Weekends.  Many teachers have also committed extra time to help these students who have made these requests.  To meet this demand, school time has been extended for one hour each school day and school is scheduled to be open for 3 hours every Saturday from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM.  Children, parents and teachers are given the opportunity to freely schedule this time as the need arises. Participants have found this extended school time both rewarding and enriching.

 

Camping Program
Each year in May, the Intermediate School goes on a camping trip.  This program was initiated by the classroom teachers who felt that children needed an outdoor learning experience.  They also wanted to provide an opportunity to build a more positive school community.  The camping program is truly a school community event.  Students, parents and teachers attend an overnight stay at Camp Notre Dame.  The camping themes are built around general themes of classroom instruction.  Three yearly themes have been developed: Pioneer America, Colonial/ Early American History, and Native American History.  At camp the children, learn through interactive simulations, discussions, presentations, and hand-on activities.

School Play
Each year the students have an opportunity to participate in a school play.  Try-outs reflect a desire to place each student in the very best role and do not involve elimination of participants.  All children can participate in some capacity, whether it is acting, stage management, or special lighting and effects.  Each year, up to 200 students have joined the play production team.  The plays are musicals and involve a fun mix of singing, dancing, and acting.

 

Other Programs
In addition to those programs described, a sundry of other field trips and activities are scheduled for classes, grade levels and the entire school.
